They Heard Her Voice in the Lapping Waters

There is magic and mystery afloat from the surface of the river to the deep dark sea. The exhibition explores both myth and mystery of these once revered goddesses who fizzled in and crashed out of our collective memory like water lapping the shore

Are you sure that it was seaweed that touched your swimming toes?

Have you ever seen something shimmer in the water?

Do you hear the ripples and rapids sing?

Jojo Hynes has created an exhibition inspired by the stories of female water deities throughout the world. There is magic and mystery afloat from the surface of the river to the deep dark sea. Exploring the myth and mystery of these once revered goddesses who crashed in and fizzled out of our collective memory like water lapping the shore. Become immersed in film, sound, painting and drawing in this exhibition.

Jojo Hynes’ current practice explores representations of real and fictional female protagonists, playing with hierarchies. She is influenced by where the past and the present meet and overlap, using collage across a range of media including film, sound, painting and printmaking.
