Photobook Launch | 6pm 23rd June 2022

A Woman Walks Alone At Night With A Camera

We'd love to see you for the launch of our book at ENGAGE ART STUDIOS GALLERY, Galway, 6pm, June 23rd

Q&A chaired by the brilliant Aster Reem David
Aster Reem David (b. 1988, Pakistan) is a visual artist working with photography, printmaking, installation, and mixed media. Her research and process-driven practice centres on the themes of landscape, ecology, and more-than-human collaboration. Aster is currently based in west Ireland studying a master's programme in Art & Ecology where her research and studio focus is Queer Ecology.

Featuring an essay by Phillina Sun and photographs by Ruby Wallis. A Woman Walks Alone at Night with Camera centres around the experience of walking at night as a woman. Designed by Eimearjean McCormack, the publication links image and text through the figure of the flâneuse, framed here as a subversive, imaginative explorer who wanders the city according to her desire, deterritorialising an urban landscape traditionally seen as a male domain.

This summer images and text from this project will be exhibited at PhotoIreland Festival, for Images Are All We Have & for Bones in the Attic-a major new exhibition at The Hugh Lane Gallery.

Thanks to the Arts Council - this book project was funded by an Agility Award for Literature.
